Walking 62 miles in March for women in refuges across the UK

As a female-founded business and as parents of 27 (!) children between us, we are acutely aware of our privilege.  Yes, I said it, privilege.

Yes - it hasn’t been plain sailing, and we’ve had to work hard to have an equal footing with men in our industry. We’ve even had to set up a business that would ensure we had greater flexibility and were able to blend our work and home lives in a way that meant we could follow a career and be present for our children.

However, we are able to earn our own money, craft our own careers and with our family-first ethos be flexible about how we parent our children. We are safe.

As we look towards International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day this month, it’s important to recognise how far we’ve come but how many aren’t as lucky and how many mothers will be spending Mother’s Day in fear and danger.  1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse.   Over 7,000 women and children are in refuges across the country on any given day.

Those statistics are here in the UK, in a developed country with a welfare state and a stable political infrastructure.  Yet, there are women, children - mothers -  who are suffering at the hands of those who should keep them safe.

We have a team of PRNers walking 62 miles this month in aid of Refuge and every step we take we will be thinking about those women and children.  We are hoping to raise cash to continue the valuable work Refuge has been doing since 1971.

  • £250 will pay for a school uniform for a child in a refuge

  • £555 could run the helpline for three hours

  • £1,250 cost of running Tech Abuse service

  • £2,000 will run an entire refuge for 5 days

If you’d like to join us on one of our daily walks (we can turn our meetings into walking meetings), or you want to help us fundraise as part of our Refuge Ramblers PRN team, we’d love to hear from you.  Just drop me an email.

You can follow our progress on our social channels: Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
